‘The dirtier, the better’ is something that this chemical engineer and MIT(Massachusetts Institute of Technology) graduate firmly believes in, as David Whitlock has not had a shower for 12 years and sprays live bacteria called “Mother Dirt AO+ Mist” onto his skin instead.
He believes that dirt is good for us and does not miss taking a shower at all.
Whitlock’s motivation behind this was revealed when he told a news broadcaster that “No one did clinical trials on people taking showers every day, so what’s the basis for assuming that that is a healthy practice?”
Whitlock is all about restoring good bacteria to the skin as it’s a healthier option and is convinced that our ancestors enjoyed this bacterium.
As it was slowly phased out by excessive cleaning; going as far as founding his own company called AOBiome to prove his theory.
According to Medical Daily, he hopes to bring a ‘lil dirt back into our lives. The general manager of consumer products at APBiome, Jasmina Aganovic, insists that people confuse clean with sterile and removing dirt out of our lives has left little time for the outdoors.
The live bacterium spray (Mother Dirt AO+ Mist) that David Whitlock makes use of was created by his company and can be sprayed onto the skin twice a day.
If you are worried about any odour, the product happens to be odourless and feels like water (weird how a bacteria-filled product, smells like nothing or is it just me?).
If you looking to cut down on your deodorant use, then you could try the spray as well as the Mother Dirt shampoo and cleanser; but do not fret.
It will not interfere with the bacteria as it does not contain any bacteria.
Rest assured, Whitlock may not shower daily but he does use Mother Dirt AO+Mist spray daily and hopes other people would join in. “I would like a billion people a day to use this.”
Medical Daily says that “according to Bloomberg, Whitlock smells perfectly fine, and his skin looks great.”
Although there is no scientific proof that suggests there is health benefits to the live bacteria spray, AOBiome hopes to begin clinical trials of the spray on skin conditions where it’s inflamed, including acne.
I know some of you wish that you did not have to shower regularly, and what’s the big fuss when it comes to dirt.
I will admit the whole rugged, scruffy look is appealing but not showering regularly?
Mmm, each to his own I guess, do let us know if you would be keen in using the Mother Dirt AO+Mist spray instead of a good-old shower?
