And you thought the barefoot running shoe was a step too far? Try this on for size…

Now these may not give you the ability to walk on water, but  the Protocell sneaker is a shoe with supernatural-like powers: it can regenerate overnight and is able to respond to every step you take. Now how’s that for futuristic? These shoes, which are 3D, are like another layer of skin, and made from synthetic biological material. It could however take nearly four decades before it becomes commercially available. The creator behind this extraordinary footwear technology is London-based designer and engineer Shamees Aden, who has already created a prototype. “The cells have the capability to inflate and deflate and to respond to pressure,” she was quoted saying.

“But the special material requires a little extra care as you have to store them in a jar full of protocell liquid.” These shoes are custom made for the wearers foot, and while the protocells aren’t alive, they act like they are hence its responsive and self-healing abilities. “You would take the trainers home and you would have to care for it as if it was a plant, making sure it has the natural resources needed to rejuvenate the cells,” she was further quoted saying.
